I went to Pisa for a day, saw the leaning tower, ate lunch, then had six more hours to kill.
My roommates (or travel buddies) and I went to Pisa for a quick day trip. When booking the trip, I thought we would want to have plenty of time in the city, so I scheduled the train to leave at 10 am and get back around 8 pm. None of us knew what to do in Pisa besides seeing the leaning tower, so we wandered around the city all day.
When we first arrived, we were really excited to see the leaning tower. As we were walking towards it, we could kind of catch the first glimpses around different buildings, and then there it was. It was magnificent, gigantic, and tilted. It didn’t really feel real, it was one of those things that you always knew about growing up, but never thought you would see it.
There were swarms of people surrounding the tower, trying to angle their photos to get the perfect picture of themselves holding up the tower. Bella, Joji, and I decided we would do the same thing, and after many attempts we were finally able to get some good pictures.
After we exhausted ourselves with taking pictures, we decided to get lunch, and as we were leaving the restaurant, I saw another student from my Italian class sitting inside! Neither of us told the other that we were going to go to Pisa that day, and I was shocked to see her in the same restaurant.
After that we wandered around for a little bit, found a place to sit by the tower, and tried to think of something else to do before our train. We tried to go shopping but most of the stores were closed for lunch, so we walked around the city for a couple of hours. We ended up finding a park to sit in while we ate our dinner from the grocery store and played card games for an hour.
By then it was about 6 pm, so we decided to slowly make our way back to the train station. We passed through the shopping center again and went into some of the stores. When we went to Zara, and we spent about thirty minutes picking out perfume. It was a very difficult decision for us to make because there were so many options, but we all ended up walking out of the store with a new bottle of perfume in our bags.
Then, when we got to the train station, we just sat and talked to each other on the platform, because I guess it’s better to be early than late.
